March 2008
By Stephanie Maher Palenque

Whether your style is bright and bold, or flirty and feminine the styles that are surfacing this season will help you make a splash at any party or outing. These fashions are all about fun, whether they are all about primary colors or pastels, bold prints and cuts or demure floral print dresses.

Nothing in Moderation ( 39512 N. Daisy Mountain Drive, Suite 176 ; Fry's Shopping Center; 623.551.9502)

A little-known fact, possibly Anthem's best-kept secret, is that there is a wonderful clothing and gift boutique in the Merle Norman shop in the Fry's Marketplace. One would enter the boutique by walking into Merle Norman, and continuing past the makeup and into the back of the store.

Tammy Weis-Trobridge, the owner of the boutique, has a lot of insight when it comes to Spring trends in 2008.

So what are some of the trends we will be seeing this spring? “Lots of dresses: ruffles and florals; a hint of retro that harkins back to the 1970s and 80s, tropical prints, and graphic black and white prints, which never seem to go out of style,” shares Weis-Trobridge.

According to Weis-Trobridge, jewelry will be the most obvious throwback to the 80's with big, bright hoop earrings and chunky pieces.

Makeup will also look vaguely familiar from decades past with pastels on the eyes, flushed cheeks, and pale nude lips.

Mode Boutique ( 39504 N. Daisy Mountain Drive, Suite 106 ; 623.551.9215)

You'll be barking “Aye, Aye, Captain” when you see the styles that Mode Boutique has in store for you. According to owner, Katrina Storjohann, anything nautical will be in style, along with bold, primary colors such as red, white, navy blue, and yellow. Red will be especially popular in the summer.

Katrina points to “maxi dresses” as a springtime trend, as well as anything bright and patterned. Wide-legged pants are still in, as well as mini skirts, as long as it is age-appropriate and you can pull it off.

Katrina echoes Tammy's sentiments about jewelry: “Big, bold, and costume jewelry will be hot this spring. Layering – especially bangles – is very “in” this spring,” explained Katrina.

i Seventeen (3170 W. Carefree Hwy., Suite 6 ; Tramonto; 623-434-6532)

This spring is all about 70's glamour and bold retro colors, according to Connie Tafoya, owner of i-Seventeen. Florals are also blooming this spring, whether it's a single flower, or an entire floral arrangement. When it comes to colors, Connie advises, “It is important to include the fun retro yellows, pinks, blues, and greens. Baltic blue and royal blue, forest green, red, and yellow, intertwined with that Seventies look will play a huge part in the color scheme. Never forget to always throw in the basic blacks and whites.”

If you're shopping for Easter dresses, keep your eye out for “A” lines and tunics with a Seventies look. However, there is no need to scrap all of the existing fashions in your closet. “Remember that just because your closet is packed to the max with that babydoll look, don't throw it out just yet. Instead, spice it up by slipping into your skinny or straight leg white jeans. Accessorize with distinctive bold belts and fun techno colors and you are back in style!”

“Casual wear consists of ever-so-comfy sweatsuit attire, such as top brands like Twisted Heart and Bejewelled that have a widespread line of lightweight shorts and tanks that are embellished with all that BLING!”

This spring and summer 2008 is a fresh start from years prior, so get out there and shop and have fun with “anything goes” Seventies glamour!

Chir Kiff, the enthusiastic owner of this soon-to-be “his-and-hers” accessories boutique is more than happy to share advice on current trends. Opening a business such as this one has been a long-time dream of this self-proclaimed “girlie girl.” The boutique will feature team apparel as well as designer handbags, jewelry, hair accessories and belts.

“It's all about colors this season – everything is in vibrant greens, yellows, oranges, and reds. Patent leather is really big right now,” shares Kiff.

And, speaking of things “big” Kiff explains that the large “hobo bag” is holding strong as a “must have” accessory. “The difference now, is that designers are using lighter materials such as nylon in their designs.”

Kiff also acknowledges that jewelry styles lean towards the big and bold this season – “statement making” styles.

Look for the grand opening of this exciting boutique in April, just in time to help you accessorize your spring and summer look!
